Careers Allowance 

Carer’s Allowance is a benefit for unpaid carers. It’s controlled centrally by government, and worth an extra £3,515 per year to support us in our caring role. It’s normally very quick to work out if we are eligible for Carer’s Allowance using our handy tool. Attendance Allowance 

As carers, we often find ourselves supporting the person we care for to apply for Attendance Allowance. So with input from unpaid carers in our community, here’s our guide to supporting carers through the process.

Pension Credit 

Pension Credit gives you extra money to help with your living costs if you’re over State Pension age and on a low income. Pension Credit can also help with housing costs such as ground rent or service charges.

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP)

You can get £96.35 per week Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) if you’re too ill to work. It’s paid by your employer for up to 28 weeks.

NHS-funded nursing care

NHS-funded nursing care is when the NHS pays for the nursing care component of nursing home fees. The NHS pays a flat rate directly to the care home towards the cost of this nursing care.

Armed forces compensation

You can claim for compensation if while serving in the armed forces:
you got an injury or illness
an existing condition you had was made worse

Council Tax Disabled Band Reduction Scheme

You may be entitled to a reduction in your Council Tax bill if your home has certain features that are essential to you living there.

Housing Benefit

Housing Benefit is being replaced by Universal Credit. Most people will need to claim Universal Credit instead.
